What Is A Calorie?
In the search for a more slender and sleek self there are some things that many people just do not understand.
For the most part the largest part of the world has been on a diet for a portion of their lives.
That is very common as the medical world has really started to push the fact that we all need to be at a healthy weight to maintain a good over all lifestyle.
While in the past the weight issue was not pushed like it used to be, there are doctors and other medical professionals who now believe that excess weight is the cause of many medical conditions.
These medical conditions can be treated but they are much harder to beat when the person is carrying around fifty or a hundred extra pounds.
So we go through the entire process looking for some thing that will decrease the weight that we have.
That is why it is so important for us to understand all that goes into having a healthy weight. For that we need to look at the terms and so on that are normally associated with the weight loss part of life.
If we can manage to understand the concept behind weight loss then we can start to put together a plan that will not only help us to lose weight but also lead us to a more healthy lifestyle over all. One of the main things that you hear when you are starting on any diet is calories.

This has been some thing that most of the diet people in the world have pushed for years.
There seem to be calories in just about everything, with the exception of water. Then you see that the medical world says that calories on a whole are bad or actually too many calories are bad.
So we must ask ourselves what a calorie is and how do we avoid having too many of them? Well the answer to the first part is rather simple really.
There are two common definitions for calorie.
The first definition is the amount of heat that is required to raise one gram of water one degree. As you can see this has nothing to do with weight loss or weight gain so we will ignore that fact. The other more common definition is the amount of fuel for energy that is created by food for our bodies.
That is where we get into the weight loss part of the calorie. You see, calories are nothing more than energy and that energy is what the body needs to function. Now you may be thinking, but if I cut out the calories then how will my body function?
Well that is the thing, you are never going to cut out all the calories because if you did then you would be eating nothing but cardboard every day and would eventually expire. The trick is too limit the calories that you take in.
All of the so called good foods, such as deep fried and so on are very high in calories. The main fact of the matter is that the body only needs so many calories to function and when you add too many the energy just sits around not being used.
Then the extra food is turned into fat and stored for later use. As we continue down this path we start to become over weight which then leads to a whole host of problems for us from a health point of view.
